Panama-Hat Plant

A Panama-Hat Plant looks a lot like a palm branch but its not.  This plant’s name comes from the fact that you can make the panama hat from it.  The panama-hat plant in fact is not part of the palm family.  The panama-hat plant grows wild from Central America south to Bolivia.   The panama-hat plant is a great source of fiber: it is often seen as a ornamental plant in homes and offices across the world.  The frondlike leaves are used to weave the Panama hat.
