We are so happy that your child will be in my classroom!  We hope you are ready for a really good year.  We know we are!  This week your child will begin one of the most important milestones of his/her life—the first day of school! We understand that you and your child may meet this day with both excitement and apprehension (or maybe just a little of both).  We hope that this letter will help you to know what to expect this year and to answer any questions you may have.

We are looking forward to working with your child and helping him/her to begin a journey into learning. It is our goal that the children we teach love school and knowledge.  With teamwork and cooperation among parents, teachers and students, we know that we will have a TERRIFIC year!

PARENT PARTICIPATION

Throughout the school year there will be a variety of special classroom activities and celebrations.  There will be a sign up sheet for parties in our room during the first few days of school.  Your support of these activities makes your child feel important and lets him/her know that you value school.

ATTENDANCE

Regular and prompt attendance at school is critical to your child’s success.  Many of our activities are group oriented and participation with other students is a necessary part of learning.  Of course, if your child is sick the best place for him/her to be is at home.  A sick child does not feel like learning or doing work.

TRANSPORTATION CHANGES

Please, please, please NOTIFY US IN WRITING if there are any changes in the way your child will be going home from school.  Without written instruction from you (we cannot accept verbal changes from your child or a sibling), we will send your child home in the usual manner or to day care.

OUTDOOR RECESS

Our students will be going outdoors everyday unless it is raining or extremely cold.  Please keep this in mind when you help your child select clothing for the day.  We are fortunate to have a variety of playground equipment that includes several pieces for climbing.  Please keep this in mind when selecting shoes.  Dressy shoes tend to be slippery—so wear with caution.

MONEY

Sometimes your child will need to bring money to school.  Please send this money in a sealed envelope with the following information written on it:

·        Your child’s first and last name.

·        The amount of money.

·        The purpose for the money (book money,  field trip money, etc.)

·        Teacher's name.

BOOK ORDERS

About once a month your child will bring home a form to order books.  If you wish to order, simply fill out the form and send a check made out to the book company in an envelope.  These orders are provided as a convenient way for parents to buy some very good books at a low price.  Also, for every dollar that is spent on these books, We earn bonus points that are used to purchase books for our classes to use. Of course, you are under no obligation to buy.

BIRTHDAYS

Birthdays are such special occasions for children.  If you wish, you may send a special snack on his/her birthday.  Please let us know a day or two in advance so we will work with you in planning something special that will tie-in with our unit or theme.

COMMUNICATION

Your child will bring home a folder every day. Inside it, you will find important notices as well as some of the work your child has done that day.  Please look inside the folder every day.

If you need to contact Mrs. Robinson, please feel free to call me at school (770-834-6651) or at home (770-834-7683).  My email address is alrob269@bellsouth.net.

SUPPLIES

The following is a list of supplies that your child will need in kindergarten.  Please mark the paint shirt, book bag, rest mat, sweatshirt, and towel with your child’s name.

1.      Book bag - Your child will need this at school every day. Paper, glue, scissors, pencils, and a box to store them in will be provided for your child, so there will be no need to have them in their book bag.  Your child will also be given a folder.  Also, if you send notes to us or return papers, it will be helpful if you put them in this folder.  Please check your child’s book bag daily.  It is very important that your child is able to open and close his book bag by himself.

2.      Paint Shirt- An old shirt, or T-shirt, large enough to cover their clothes is great.

3.      Rest mat – These can be found at Walmart or Target.

4.      Beach towel

5.      White sweatshirt –Along with first grade, second grade will decorate sweatshirts for Christmas.  It is very difficult to find white sweatshirts at that time of year.

6.      Tissues – one box

7.      Shaving cream – one can (inexpensive)

**Please send an extra change of clothes in a large paper bag with your child’s name on it.  Sometimes people accidentally get wet on the playground.

FINALLY

Informed children are confident children.  Encourage your child to ask questions about school.  Please talk positively about school.  The way your child perceives your feelings about his/her school and teachers greatly effect the way he/she feels about them.  We are so very delighted to have your child in our classes, and we can’t wait for school to start! We really appreciate you support and look forward to a wonderful year!
