Giving to Oak Mountain Academy

In order to offer the very best education for our students, Oak Mountain Academy provides numerous opportunities for individuals, foundations and corporations to support the school financially.  These include the Annual Fund and the Annual Auction as well as capital campaigns and restricted giving as the need arises.

The Annual Fund is a yearly fundraising campaign designed to raise money to help meet the gap between tuition revenues and the actual cost of running the school.  This is the major source of unrestricted support for the school and its programs.  Oak Mountain Academy is proud of the fact that 90% of our parents and 100% of our faculty and staff have given to the 2007-08 Annual Fund.  To add your gift to theirs, fill out the gift form and mail it with your gift to the school.

In the first weekend in March every year, Oak Mountain hosts its Annual Auction.  This yearly event is sponsored by the PVA and involves every family in the school.  Due to the support of many businesses in the West Georgia community as well as the hard work of our parents, this event typically raises at least $65,000 for the school.  Funds from this important event are used to benefit our students in a variety of ways, such as purchasing computers and buying a new school bus.

In the summer of 2004 we entered into a six-month-long planning process which included a wide variety of OMA stakeholders. We looked critically at our immediate needs, and made plans to address them. The result was our Strategic Plan for Excellence, which was launched in January 2005. The plan called for numerous short-term and intermediate goals, most of which were programmatic and communication oriented. Our fund drive, headed by parent Bennett Brown, raised over one million dollars, which made the implementation of these items possible. These items, in turn, have helped the school to grow in both program and enrollment so that we can now support all programs within our current operating budget.

In July 2007, the Board, administrative staff and Headmaster met with Chip Snowden, senior consultant from ISM (Independent School Management). We looked at all aspects of the school, considered survey results, our acceditation report, current enrollment, and overall direction. The result was the creation of a new strategic plan. This plan takes a much longer view of the school as we begin to look not simply at the current year, but four, five, and six years down the road. Please take a moment to review the strategic plan brochure. We welcome your comments and suggestions; click to use the Points to Parmer comment card.
